A. COPYRIGHT AND CREDIT

It is important to respect and acknowledge the time, monetary expense, and work of others. I express, reserve, and defend my rights, especially for my noncited/unattributed/nonlicensed materials, which contain embedded code for detection. Deleting a transferred page and substituting it with your new memorial denies the original contributor credit and will be reported to Find A Grave for account termination.

USA copyright and agreements protect authored expression such as images, compilations, and nonfactual, descriptive text.

How to Credit (Cite and Attribute) My Materials--Examples for an 1) Image, 2) Text, and 3) Image with Text:

B. PRIVACY

An individual's right to privacy disappears when s/he is deceased, according to Find A Grave.

Work, including messages from/to me, is private and prohibited from release without my consent, which, if granted, I may revoke; exceptions include legal proceedings under seal, agents acting solely to deliver, or personal (nonpublic) noncommercial genealogical limited use if you are my intended recipient.

C. INQUIRY, CORRECTION, OR ADDITION

To send me an email, 1) log in, 2) select Memorials Managed, 3) select an individual, 4) select Edit tab, and 5) select Suggest any....

For a correction or addition, 6) provide data and 7) describe the data source(s), for example, cemetery record. Unsourced, unverifiable, or unreliable suggestions may be declined or removed. For suggestions I approve, credit and source should be given. See section Data and Sources below.

D. DATA AND SOURCES

Verifiable and reliable sources should be used to assert the validity of data. An original, timely, first-hand source is better than questionable data derived from a second-hand, later source. Data from unexamined sources and inferences are unreliable.

On memorials I manage, data may have been auto-accepted edits by Find A Grave, not me.

E. OTHER REQUEST

I can 1) transfer online memorials to family members and friends, 2) capture images, or 3) honor requests regarding pets.

I cannot 1) request burial information on your behalf, so contact cemetery or other source or 2) act to modify physical locations including markers.

Helpful to include:

WHOM: Your 1) nonalias name, 2) email address or Find A Grave contributor I.D., and 3) relationship to the individual. Deceased's 4) name including variations or Find A Grave memorial I.D. and 5) birth and death dates.

WHAT do you want? An image license; memorial transfer; images of grave marker, area around marker, mausoleum building, entrance, cemetery map, or panoramic view; data such as grave inscription or GPS coordinates?

WHERE: For memorial webpage updates: 1) Find A Grave memorial I.D.. For physical locations: 1) location name and address and 2) other directions (burial section, block, plot numbers).

WHEN: Season, sunny, or no restriction?

HOW many images, low or high resolution, or no restriction?

WHY: To share, for personal or public, non- or commercial use, genealogical or other purpose, or derivative remix?

F. AGREEMENT

Upon 1) request to/from me or 2) acceptance of my volunteer offer or work, you agree to all of these terms:

1) You grant me both the temporary right and permission to access, obtain, and request related, necessary information;

2) This agreement is noncontractual;

3) You acknowledge my exemption from liability, as a volunteer according to, and in parallel with, the Federal Volunteer Protection Act;

4) Sections Copyright and Credit and Privacy, both in entirety, are incorporated.
