Douglas Arnold Asbury was born in Charleston, Kanawha, WV 14 July 1949 to Arnold C. and Selma (Bek) Asbury. The family moved to Toledo, OH in June, 1958 and settled in a newly built home in Oregon, OH in Nov 1959. Doug graduated from Clay Senior High School in Oregon, OH in June, 1967 and attended the College of Wooster (OH) from 1967 to 1971, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He received a Master of Music in Voice degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL in 1973. After working in the music field in Chicago and environs for a number of years, he followed the call to ordained ministry, receiving a Master of Divinity degree in 1987 from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and was ordained an elder in the Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church in 1989. Having pastored UM churches in Northern Illinois since 1984, he retired from the active ministry in 2014. He holds "All But Dissertation" status on a Ph.D. in theological ethics from Garrett-Evangelical.
