Our great- great grandfather came to America from Germany on a sailing ship, sailing out of Bremen, Germany,to begin a new life in the late 1700's. He bought land and settled in Colleton County where he farmed. Our great-grandfather was born on the farm and fought in the Civil War with a unit from South Carolina. He was very proud of his Civil War service. Our roots extend deep in Colleton and surrounding counties in South Carolina.

We can remember our father describing the property, the old house, and coal shed,
barn and farm. The old house, coal shed
and barn are long gone now but the
memories will always remain with us as
told to us by our father and mother.

Weekends now are for relaxed activities of
our choosing since retirement. I enjoy
visiting old cemeteries with my two
remaining sisters. We often ponder
as we gaze at inscriptions on headstones
what their lives where like and pray
they aren't forgotten. Some of the older cemeteries appear to have been abandoned, headstones broken and graves unkempt.

We were excited when we found Find-A-
Grave by chance and will try to add
memorials and perhaps if able to also
add pictures before the gravesites are
totally lost to the future generations
who will follow us.
