I was born and grew up in Selma, Fresno county, California. I worked in the vineyards, fruit orchards fruit packing plants and fruit canneries of central California until 1975 when I graduated from college. I briefly worked for the US Department of Agriculture inspecting food in the frozen food plants of Washington state. In 1976 I took a job with the California Department of Fish and Game at the California State Fisheries Laboratory in San Pedro, California studying the commercial fisheries of southern California. In 1979 I moved to Monterey, California to study commercial and recreational fisheries there. I transfered to Vallejo, California in 1992 to help the oil industry and the Coast Guard develop an oil spill response plan for San Francisco Bay. In 2000 I transferred to Sacramento to work on the cleanup of hazardous waste at military bases. I retired in 2004. I still work part time. I hunt, fish, hike, backpack, kayak in both the ocean and whitewater rivers and creeks. I am married, have three children and 4 grandchildren with whom I spend a lot of time.
