Bio

Hi,
I am Jerry Hammond from Fairfax County, VA. I have only been researching my family for the past four years. My interest in genealogy started when I attended a seminar on DNA and genealogy offered by the Mt. Vernon Genealogy Society (MVGS). Within a month, I submitted DNA and a rudimentary family tree to SMGF (Sorenson), joined the MVGS, and have devoted full-time to genealogy ever since. I am researching the Hammond's, Felton's, Clay's, Power's, Vandusen's and many others. I have taken two "roots" tours across country so far. The most recent was in Sept. 2008 where I traveled from Virginia to Washington state, stopping at six locations where I have found that various members of my family once lived--very exciting finds at every stop! More recently, I traveled to Pulaski County, Kentucky and Augusta County, Virginia. Additionally, because I live close to Washington, DC, I have made several trips to the National Archives to do research on my family.
