I was born in Johnson, Stanton County KS, during the Kansas Dust Bowl.
I grew to early childhood in Johnson and remained there until 1941, under the dark clouds of the Dust Bowl & Great Depression, as the distant echoe of war drums signalled the approach of WWII.

The year WWII started, my parents packed up & we left Johnson, leaving friends, family and loved ones behind. we set out following Daddy's construction (war) jobs across the country.
Daddy helped build army camps, airfield runways, defense and war plants in differant places. Parsons, Olatha KS, Colorado Springs, CO where He helped break the ground for Camp Carson; there they dug rattlesnakes nests as big as washtubs, out of the ground.
We lived in North Avondale, CO and Daddy helped build the Pueblo Army Depot. At Dennison, TX He worked on the big Dam.

In 1943-44, I lived in Kennewick, WA where daddy helped build the Hanford Nuclear Site .
We left Kennewick WA, just before the War ended in early 1945, and moved back to Colorado.

After 3 more moves, we moved to the farm at Holly, C0 near the Kansas border, where I lived when I married my new sailor husband in 1952, and moved to Calif. Seven of our 8 children were born in CA, one in Utah.
I moved back to Colorado with my family in 1965 during the Watts riots. I drove 40 miles a day to attend college at USC in Pueblo, CO and got My degree.

In 1988, I moved to Portland OR to work for a short time at the shipyard. I worked as a laborer on the Exon Valdez just before her big oil spill in Alaska. I have been in Portland ever since enjoying My children, grand and great grandchildren.
