Bio

Hello, welcome to my profile page.

My name is Deana (pronounced DEENA) Carlson.
I am from western Pennsylvania, but I have spent most of my life in South Florida.
I began my genealogy search in 1991 after the loss of my Grandfather and finding some family history papers in his belongings. When I told my other grandparents about it they were very excited to share information they had collected over the years from their family reunions and that is how my obsession all began.

As soon as I typed in Samuel Brown tons of information popped up and I met so many new cousins who all had the same information and so much more (who would have ever thought that I would find anything on such a common name). I have to thank Roger Spear, Rusty Davis, Bob Fitch, Dalene Wilkinson, Judi Wilson, Elaine Lydick, Thomas J. Goodwill, David Waid, Charles Waid, Bimmy, Marie Finlan Buck, Ken Humphrey, Arlo and Patsey Payne, Delores Davidson, Gary Dankworth, Tammy Lachner, Donna Hunt, Doris Brecht, Marty Hagstrom, Lois McDanel, Elsie Raby, Cliff Martin, Corinne Lloyd and so many more for all the help they have given me over the years. These were the first cousins that I met in my search, all within the first week.

Most of my family settled in or near
Chautauqua County, New York and in
Crawford, Erie and Warren Counties in Pennsylvania.

My surnames include:

Anderson, Carlson, Dasen, Egger, Johansson, Johnson, Karlsson, Larson, Struchen,

Abbott, Baldwin, Barker, Bates, Bell, Bishop, Brown, Cone, Dill, Foster, Gamwell, Goodale, Goodell, Goodwill, Grant, Green, Harris, Hills, Hinchliffe, Howard, Humphrey, Jackson, Knowles, Lambert, Ledlie, Loomis, Lord, McNitt, Mead, Nurse, Pettengill, Pettit, Rice, Richardson, Robbins, Rowley, Sweet, Trowbridge, Tryon, Turner, Tyler, Sawyer, Shorey, Swan, Wade, Waid, Wallace, White, Whitford,

Carney, Chiacchiero, Painter, Ray, Renzi, Tortorelli, Witt, Woolridge,

Ache, Agin, Birkenhauer, Boord, Cover, Dolowa, Dolwva, Fisher, Glenn, Kain, Kurtz, Martin, McCoid, McVicker, Miller, Schneckenberger, Tucker, Weileman, Wilenmann, Woloszn, Wurtzbacher

While I have not added a lot of graves, I spend a lot of time linking families.

I have recently learned about a classmate's demise in 1985 which has caused interest in Arrow Air Flight 1285 ~ an international charter flight carrying U.S. troops from the 101st Airborne ("Screaming Eagles") from a peacekeeping mission in Cairo, Egypt, to their home base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
It was the deadliest plane crash in Canada, and the United States Army's single deadliest air crash.
It was just before Christmas. Married Soldiers with Families were given priority for seats on the flight in an attempt to reunite them with their families before Christmas.
248 Soldiers attached or assigned to 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, "Strike and Kill," 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborn Division, and eight crew members, died in the crash.
The Soldiers were returning after a six-month peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula in the Middle East.
President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan visited Fort Campbell on Dec. 16, 1985 to comfort the grieving families and community.
"Some people think of members of the military as only warriors, fierce in the martial expertise," President Reagan said during a speech. "But the men and woman we mourn today were peacemakers. They were there to protect life and preserve peace, to act as a force for stability and hope and trust."
The fallen Soldiers' commitment was strong and their purpose was pure, he said.
"They had a rendezvous with destiny and a potential they never failed to meet. They were the ones of whom Christ spoke when He said 'Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called children of God,'" he said.
A memorial to the 256 victims at the crash site overlooks Gander Lake, and another memorial was erected at Fort Campbell. There is also a Memorial Park in Hopkinsville, KY, just north of Fort Campbell.
