Evans, Melvin Herbert b. August 7, 1917 d. December 1, 1984 US Congressman. Governor. Diplomat. Born in Christiansted, St. Croix, Evans received bachelor's and medical degrees from Howard University and became a physician. He later received a master's degree in Public Health Administration from Howard. He was Virgin Islands Health Commissioner from 1959 to 1967. Thomas, Valmy b. October 21, 1928 d. October 16, 2010 Major League Baseball Player. For five seasons (1957 to 1961), he played at the catcher position with the New York/San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians.
