Butler, John Fitzhardinge Paul b. December 20, 1888 d. September 5, 1916 World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Berkeley, England, he served as a Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps Attached Pioneer Company, Gold Coast Regiment. At the Cameroons, West Africa, on November 17, 1914, with a party of thirteen men, Lieutenant Butler attacked the enemy in the strength of about one hundred, defeated them and captured their machine gun, plus many loads of ammunition.
