Craig, James b. September 10, 1824 d. March 18, 1861 Crimean War Victoria Cross Recipient. He served as a Colour Sergeant in the Scots Fusilier Guards. On the night of September 6, 1855, during the siege of Sevastopol, Crimea, Colour Sergeant Craig with a drummer went out to the enemy line to save the life of a supposedly wounded officer. Born in Uitenhage, South Africa, he served as a Lieutenant in the 78th Highlanders, Regiment of Foot, British Army. On August 12, 1857, at the entrenched village in front of Busherutgunge, India, the redoubt was occupied by the enemy who were causing heavy casualties among the 18th Regiment of Foot.
