Mitchell, Samuel b. September 8, 1841 d. March 16, 1894 Waikato-Hauhau Maori War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Foretop, Royal Navy. At Tauranga, New Zealand, April 29, 1864, Captain Mitchell was a member of a storming party of 150 sailors and marines from the HMS Harrier ordered to attack a fortified position.
