Martineau, Horace Robert b. October 31, 1871 d. April 7, 1916 Second Boer War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Protectorate Regiment, South African Forces. On December 26, 1899, during action at Mafeking, Africa, Sergeant Martineau stopped to help a wounded comrade ten yards from the Boer trenches. He carried the man towards a bush about 150 yards from the trenches and in doing so was himself wounded. He proceeded to bandage the wounds of his comrade and was again wounded.
