Moeran, E. J. b. December 31, 1894 d. December 1, 1950 Composer. Full name Ernest John Moeran. His studies at the Royal College of Music were curtailed by the start of World War I, when he joined the Army as a motorcycle messenger. In May 1917 he was wounded in the head by shrapnel fragments that were too close to the brain to remove; a steel plate was placed in his skull and he was plagued by medical problems for the rest of his life. O'Flaherty, Hugh b. February 28, 1898 d. October 30, 1963 World War II figure. Hugh O'Flaherty was born in County Kerry, Ireland. He became a Catholic priest and was ordained in Rome on December 20, 1925. After his ordination, he worked at the Vatican.
