Chipman, John Logan b. June 5, 1830 d. August 17, 1893 US Congressman. Elected to represent Michigan's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1887 to 1893. He was defeated as Democratic in 1866. Chipman, Nathaniel b. November 15, 1752 d. February 13, 1843 US Senator. Served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He was a United States Senator from Vermont from 1797 to 1803. Also served as a Member of the Vermont State House of Representatives from 1784 to 1785, 1806 to 1891, and in 1811, Justice of Vermont State Supreme Court from 1790 to 1791, 1796 to 1797, and 1813 to 1815, and Judge of the United States District Court for Vermont in 1791. Chipman, Norton Parker b. March 7, 1834 d. February 1, 1924 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General and Congressman. He left his law practice in Iowa at the outbreak of the Civil War, entered the Union Army and was commissioned Major of the 2nd Iowa Infantry on September 23, 1861. Promoted Colonel on April 17, 1862, he was seriously injured and reported as dead at Fort Donelson later that year. Chipman, Robert "Bob" b. October 11, 1918 d. November 8, 1973 Major League Baseball Player. The 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher appeared in a total of four games in 1941-43 with Brooklyn. He was 3-1 with the Dodgers when he was traded on June 6, 1944 to the Chicago Cubs for second baseman Eddie Stanky. Chipman was 12-10 in 1944 and 4-5 with a 3.50 earned run average when the Cubs won the 1945 National League pennant, but he pitched only one-third of an inning against Detroit in the World Series. Chipman, Ward b. July 30, 1754 d. February 9, 1824 Ward Chipman, a Loyalist, was appointed New Brunswick's attorney general, then its solicitor general, after he was exiled to England at the outset of the American Revolution. He sat in New Brunswick's first House of Assembly. He drew up the Charter for the city of Saint John and he designed Saint John's corporate seal, still in use today.
