Reed (Napier), Elizabeth b. November 9, 1845 d. May 3, 1935 Folk Figure. She is distinguished as being the inspiration for the Allman Brothers Band song, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". In the early days of the Allman Brothers Band, the members would frequent Rose Hill Cemetery to relax and write songs. In 1970, guitarist Dickie Betts composed "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" which was the first instrumental for the group. Reid, J. Neel b. 1885 d. 1926 Noted Architect. Considered in his day to be a "Southern icon," many of the homes and buildings he and his firm designed in the South have become landmarks. Each year the J. Neel Reid Prize honors rising architects in Georgia. Two books about him and his work have been published, "Architecture of Neel Reid in Georgia" by James Grady and "J. Stribling, William Lawrence 'Young' b. December 26, 1904 d. October 3, 1933 Boxer from Macon, Ga. He is second in all-time knockouts with 126, passed only by Archie Moore. He fought and defeated six champions, but whenever he had a title bout, he always had something strange happen. He first fought for the light-heavyweight title in 1924, when he was 17 and still in high school. He died as a result of a motorcycle wreck when he was just 28.
