Crawford, Jane b. December 23, 1763 d. March 30, 1842 Historic medical personality. Jane Crawford was a mother of four in 1809 when she was seen by physician Ephraim McDowell, seeking help for what she thought was a long overdue pregnancy. Dr. McDowell however, diagnosed her with an ovarian tumor, a fatal disease at that time. Davis, John Wesley b. April 16, 1799 d. August 22, 1859 A medical doctor from Indiana. A politician, he served as a Democrat in the 24th, 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th Congresses spanning 1835-1846. Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives 1845-1846. He negotiated Indian treaties, and was appointed by President Polk as US Commissioner to China in 1848. Hays, Will H. b. November 5, 1879 d. March 7, 1954 Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Served as United States Postmaster General from 1921 to 1922. He was an Indiana lawyer who was elected Republican National Chairman at age 38 in 1918. A few years later, he became "Movie Czar" of Hollywood as head of its self-censorship system.
