Colby, Carlos W. b. May 15, 1837 d. May 19, 1922 Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company G, 97th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 22, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His citation reads "Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party." Jett, Thomas Marion b. May 1, 1862 d. January 10, 1939 US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1887 and commenced law practice in Nokomis, Illinois. From 1889 to 1896, he served as prosecuting attorney of Montgomery County. In 1897, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth, Fifty-sixth, and Fifty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1903. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law. Lane, Edward b. March 27, 1842 d. October 30, 1912 US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1865 and commenced law practice in Hillsboro, Illinois. From 1866 to 1869, he was City Attorney of Hillsboro and elected judge of the Montgomery County Court in 1869, serving until 1873. In 1887, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1895. Phillips, Jesse J. b. May 22, 1837 d. February 16, 1901 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served in the Civil War as Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the 9th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services". A lawyer and judge by profession, he rose to become the Chief Justice of the Illinois State Supreme Court, serving from 1897 to his death in 1901.
