Arnold, William Wright b. October 14, 1877 d. November 23, 1957 US Congressman. Born in Oblong, Illinois, he attended Austin College in Effingham and graduated from the law department of the University of Illinois at Urbana. He was admitted to the bar in 1901 and started a law practice in Robinson, Crawford County, which he maintained for many years. A Democrat, Arnold held no public office until 1922, when he was elected to represent Illinois' 23d District in the US House of Representatives; he was reelected six times. Lagow, Clark Brading b. November 7, 1828 d. April 16, 1867 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served in the Civil War at first as a 1st Lieutenant in the 21st Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was then assigned to the staff of Major General Ulysses S. Grant, with whom he served as an additional Aide-de-Camp, rising to the rank of Colonel. Looker, Othniel b. October 4, 1757 d. July 23, 1845 5th Governor of Ohio. A native of Hanover, New Jersey, he served as a Private during the Revolutionary War in the New Jersey Militia with Obadiah Kitchel's Company of Colonel Martin's Regiment. After the war, he moved to New York and taught school until he became a member of the New York State Assembly in 1803 and 1804.
