April 12, 1869 She became Abraham Lincoln's stepmother when he was nine - Sarah became a widow in 1816 left with three children while Thomas Lincoln became a widower in 1818 left with two children. The migrations of Thomas were extensive. 1802 found him in Hardin County, Kentucky where he married Nancy Hanks and was the birth place of their three children. In 1816 a move was made to southern Indiana onto a homestead claim where Nancy died and was buried. 1830 saw him on the move again, this time to Macon County, Illinois with his second wife Sarah. True, James Milton b. October 14, 1823 d. July 28, 1908 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War first as a Captain in the 38th Illinous Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel and commander of the 62nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 6, 1865 in recognition of his wartime services.
