He served as a Sergeant 1st Class in Company E, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry, US Army. On January 2, 1951, Sergeant 1st Class Edwards' platoon was assigned to assist in the defense of a strategic hill area around Changbong-ni, Korea.
