Abbot, Joel b. March 17, 1776 d. November 19, 1826 US Congressman. He studied as a physician in his father's medical practice, and in 1794 established a practice of his own in Washington, Georgia. Abbot served in local offices including the city council, and was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 1799, 1802 to 1804, 1808, and 1811. In 1816 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic-Republican. DuBose, Dudley McIver b. October 28, 1834 d. March 2, 1883 CSA Brigadier General, Civil War. Congressman. He attended the University of Mississippi, and Lebanon Law School. He then practiced law in Tenneessee and Georgia before the war. When the conflict began, he was living in Augusta, Georgia, where he enlisted in the Confederate service as Lieutenant in the 15th Georgia. The regiment eventually was assigned to the brigade of Brigadier General Robert A. Toombs, the fiery Georgia politician and his father-in-law. Talbot, Matthew b. 1762 d. September 17, 1827 Georgia Governor. While serving as a Georgia state senator (1799, 1801 - 1803, 1808 - 1822), Talbot was the President of the Georgia senate when he filled in as the governor of Georgia following the death of Governor Raburn. Toombs, Robert Augustus 'Bob' b. July 2, 1810 d. December 15, 1885 US Congressman and Senator, Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. A noted attorney of his day, he served in both the US House of Representatives and Senate, then after following Georgia out of the Union was a Confederate Cabinet Secretary, Congressman, and General.
