Edwards, Jeptha b. May 10, 1828 d. July 10, 1902 Civil War Confederate Army Officer. At the beginning of the War between the States he formed Company G of the 31st Alabama Infantry regiment with W.B. Beeson. It became part of General John C. Breckenridge's 1st Kentucky (Orphan) Brigade and served as part of the reserve corps of General Albert Sidney Johnston's Army of the Mississippi at the April 1862 Battle of Shiloh. Hefner, Willie Gathrel 'Bill' b. April 11, 1930 d. September 2, 2009 US Congressman. In 1975, he was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1999. Prior to his years in Congress, he was a member of the Harvesters Quartet, a gospel music group from 1954 to 1967 and a television performer on numerous North Carolina TV channels. Hubbard, Marvin Franklin b. August 13, 1912 d. May 4, 1946 Criminal. A native of Alabama, Hubbard was sent to Atlanta Federal Penitentiary in 1942 after escaping from prison, kidnapping a Chattanooga police officer, and traveling across state lines with his victim. In 1944, he was transferred to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary after being involved in a prison riot. Reese, Vernon Phil b. May 30, 1909 d. June 2, 1971 Country music singer and comedian. Career started with a local hometown band known as the Gadsden Melody Boys in Gadsden, Alabama. Reese was selected by Joe Frank and Ernest Tubb to become one of the first Texas Troubadors. Made debut with Tubb at the Grand Ol Opry in 1943 and performed on WSM Radio in Nashville.
