Pisano, Leonardo 'Fibonnaci' b. 1170 d. 1250 Mathematician. The son of an Italian warehouse manager in Algeria, Fibonacci studied with a Moorish teacher and learned the Hindu-Arabic numeral system, which he brought to Italy and introduced in his book "Liber Abaci ("The Book of Calculation)" in 1202.
