Abbott, Joseph B. 'Jo' b. January 15, 1840 d. February 11, 1908 US Congressman. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War in the 12th Texas Cavalry regiment, rising from Private to 1st Lieutenant of Company B. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Texas' 6th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1887 to 1897. Harris, James b. June 27, 1916 d. October 7, 1944 He was awarded the US Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously. US Army second lieutenant and tank commander who while defending a battalion command post, left his tank to probe for the enemy in the darkness. Mortally wounded by machine gun bullets, he crawled back to his tank, and directed fire between two contending armored vehicles. Speaker, Tris b. April 4, 1888 d. December 8, 1958 Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Hubbard, Texas, he was an outfielder nicknamed ‘The Grey Eagle' making his debut for the Boston Red Sox on September 12, 1907. For twenty-two seasons, he played with the Boston Red Sox (1907-15, as a player manager for the Cleveland Indians (1919-26), Washington Senators in 1927 and Philadelphia athletics in 1928.
