Bellmon, Henry Louis b. September 3, 1921 d. September 29, 2009 Oklahoma Governor, US Senator. He was the first Republican to hold the Governor's chair in his home state. Bellmon graduated from Billings High School, then earned a degree in agriculture from Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State) in 1942. He served in the US Marine Corps, commanding a tank platoon, from 1942 until 1946, and was awarded the Silver Star and the Legion of Merit for action in the South Pacific. Johnston, Henry Simpson b. December 30, 1867 d. January 7, 1965 Oklahoma Governor. As a lawyer from Perry, Oklahoma he was appointed a member of the State Constitutional Convention of 1906. He also was elected a member of the first State Legislature, became the first State Senate Pro Tempore and was elected Governor in 1927. At first popular with the legislature, Johnston became entangled in scandal involving his secretary and his support of Democrat Al Smith in 1928 for the Presidency.
