Allen, Abner b. October 9, 1839 d. August 22, 1905 Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Corporal in Company K, 39th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865. His citation reads simply “Gallantry as color bearer in the assault on Fort Gregg”. Born in Coshocton, Ohio, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut for the Baltimore Orioles on May 12, 1893. After one season in Major League Baseball, he committed suicide after shooting his girl friend when argument developed. Morgan, George Washington b. September 20, 1820 d. July 26, 1893 Civil War Union Brigadier General, US Congressman. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, he was commissioned Colonel of the 2nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served the Mexican War. At the out break of the Civil War, he was appointed Brigadier General of the 7th Division of the Union Army of the Ohio in November 1861 and served until he resigned in June 863, on account of ill health. Ransom, John Crowe b. April 30, 1888 d. July 3, 1974 Poet and critic. Founder of the Kenyon Review and a father of the New Criticism. During the 1930s to the 1950s Ransom served as a professor at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. As a mentor to young people he turned the Ohio campus into a literary Arcadia of who's who of poetry, they included the likes of Randall Jarrell, Robie Macauley and Robert Lowell. Sapp, William Fletcher b. November 20, 1824 d. November 22, 1890 U.S. Congressman, Civil War Union Officer. Born in Ohio, he studied law at the office of his uncle, William R.
