After moving from Germany to the United States he joined the United States Army in Louisville, Kentucky on July 27, 1870. Serving as a Corporal in Company C, 8th United States Cavalry, he was stationed at Fort Selden in Don Ana County, New Mexico, which had been built to protect settlers in the area and those settlers that were passing through from the Indians. Crews, Charles Cotilda b. 1830 d. November 21, 1887 Civil Wat Confederate Army Officer. A practicing physician in Cuthbert, Georgia, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Georgia Cavalry in October of 1861. He was elected Captain of Company C of the 2nd Georgia Cavalry on May 7, 1862. He fought in all of the battles of the Army of Tennessee and was severely wounded in the hip in the attack at Dover, Tennessee in January of 1863. McNally, James b. 1839 d. November 26, 1904 Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. James McNally served in the 3rd and the 8th US Calvary from 1858–1883. Wounded during the Civil War battle of Valverde, February 21, 1862. After his final discharge, McNally lived in Hatch, Hillsboro, and Kingston New Mexico where he worked several mining claims. He died in Kingtson New Mexico on November 26, 1904.
