Bowman, Alonzo b. June 15, 1848 d. October 4, 1885 Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Indian Wars as a Sergeant in Company D, 6th United States Regular Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Cibicu Creek, Arizona on August 30, 1881. His citation reads "Conspicuous and extraordinary bravery in attacking mutinous scouts". Lytle, Leonidas S. b. September 4, 1846 d. January 23, 1924 Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Served as a Sergeant, in Company C, 8th U.S. Cavalry. On July 8th to 11th, 1873, he with other platoon leaders performed skilled service duties in action against hostile Indians near Fort Selden, New Mexico Territory. Mangas-Coloradas b. 1791 d. January 18, 1863 Native American Tribal Chief. Eastern Chiricahua or Mimbreno Apache War Chief of Southwest. His Spanish name means "Red-Sleeves", so named because he always wore a red shirt. Standing over 6 feet, he was unusually tall for an Apache Indian. He was considered courageous, wise, generous, and always sought peace. Some believe he was a legend in his own time. Schnitzer, John Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the United States Army in the Wars with the Plains Indians as a Wagoner for Troop G, 4th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Horseshoe Canyon, New Mexico on April 23, 1882. His citation reads simply "Assisted, under a heavy fire, to rescue a wounded comrade".
