Princip, Gavrilo b. July 13, 1894 d. April 28, 1918 Assassin. He assassinated Archduke Ferdinand and his Wife Sophie, an act that hastened the start of World War I. Santic, Aleksa b. May 27, 1868 d. February 2, 1924 Poet. He spent most of his life in Mostar. He attended merchant schools in Trieste, Italy and Ljubljana, Slovenia.He was strongly influenced by Jovan Jovanoviæ Zmaj, Vojislav Ilic and Heinrich Heine. The topics and images of his poems ranged from strong emotions for social injustices of his time to nostalgic love.
