Savimbi, Jonas d. February 22, 2002 Angolan Rebel Leader. Head of the Anti Communist UNITA rebels. He was an ally of the US during the Angolan Civil War. After a UN brokered peace treaty, Savimbi went to the hills of Angola and continued to fight the government. He was killed in an ambush by government forces on February 22, 2002.
