  Spanish-American War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the War with Spain as a Private on board the "USS Nashville". He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His citation reads "Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Field set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action." His Medal was awarded to him on July 7, 1899.   Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Wars with the Plains Indians as a Sergeant in Company H, 7th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Little Big Horn River, Montana on June 25, 1876.
