He is best known for his full-length portrait of his mother, titled "Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 1," but usually known as "Whistler's Mother." Whittingham, Charles b. June 16, 1767 d. January 5, 1840 Whittingham was an English printer. He founded the Chiswick Press in 1810. He was assisted by his nephew, also named Charles Whittingham, who later succeeded him. The Chiswick Press printed numerous books for the London publisher William Pickering & also printed William Morris' "The Roots of the Mountains" in 1889.
