Tabor, Elizabeth McCourt 'Baby Doe' b. 1854 d. March 5, 1935 Socialite. Controversial wife of Horace Tabor, who was a silver mine owner in the days of the Colorado gold and silver booms of the 19th century. Despite wealth that allowed her to live a lifestyle that was beyond lavish, she died penniless and alone in Leadville, Colorado. She froze to death while living in a mine shack of the famous Matchless mine, which in its heyday produced $10,000 worth of silver ore per day. Vehr, Rev. Urban John b. May 30, 1891 d. September 19, 1973 Roman Catholic Bishop. He was Denver's first Catholic Archbishop. Upon his consecration as a Bishop on June 10, 1931, he was the youngest Bishop in the United States. He worked tirelessly to help the poor of Denver during the Great Depression. In 1941, the Vatican established the Archdiocese of Denver (as opposed to the Diocese of Denver) and installed Bishop Vehr as Denver's first Archbishop. Wortman, George G b. August 15, 1841 d. May 19, 1913 Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army in Company B, 8th US Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action in the Arizona Territory during August-October 1868. His citation reads "Bravery in scouts and actions against Indians."
