Hoffman, Harold Giles b. February 7, 1896 d. June 4, 1954 New Jersey Governor. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, Third Regiment, New Jersey Infantry in 1917, and served overseas as a captain and advanced to the rank of lieutenant colonel until he was discharged with the rank of colonel in 1946. Elected to Congress from 1927-1931. Elected Governor of New Jersey, 1935-1938. Governor during the Trail of the Century of Bruno Hauptmann accused of kidnapping the Lindbergh baby which ruined his political career. Howell, Benjamin Franklin b. January 27, 1844 d. February 1, 1933 US Congressman. During the Civil War he enrolled in the 12th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 4, 1862, and was mustered in as a Corporal in Company K on September 4, 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on October 6, 1863, he served with the 12th New Jersey until August 10, 1864, when he was transferred to Company C of the 21st Veterans Reserve Corps.
