Brantley, William F. b. March 12, 1830 d. November 2, 1870 Civil War Confederate Army Brigadier General. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he was a lawyer in practice when he began his military career as Captain of "The Wigfall Rifles" in the 29th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. He rapidly advanced to the rank of Colonel, commanding the 29th at the battles of Murfreesboro, Chickamauga and Lookout Mountain.
