Allen, James Browning b. December 28, 1912 d. June 1, 1978 US Senator, Alabama Lieutenant Governor. Browning, a lawyer by training, spent most of his adult life in government service. His was elected as a member of the Alabama State Legislature just three years out of law school. He served in this position from 1938 until 1942, when he resigned from the Legislature in order to enter active duty as a member of the United States Naval Reserve in World War II.
