Jervis, Sir. John b. January 9, 1735 d. March 14, 1823 British Admiral. First Earl of St. Vincent. He fought during the American War of Independence. He assumed command of the Mediterranean fleet, and defeated the Spanish in Cabo de San Vicente in 1797 when Spain was allied with Napoleonic France.
