White, Jack b. December 23, 1896 d. November 27, 1949 World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, he served as a Private in the 6th Battalion, King's Own Regiment, British Army. On March 7, 1917, while serving as a radio signal man on a pontoon during an attempt to cross on the Dialah River, Mesopotamia, he saw the two pontoons ahead of him come under heavy enemy machine-gun fire.
