Banyard, James b. January 31, 1800 d. October 31, 1863 English Religious Leader. James Banyard, a farm worker's son, was born in Rochford in 1800. He founded the religious sect known as The Peculiar People in rural Essex in the mid-19th Century. He was a disciple of James Bridges, the evangelist, who in 1836 had founded the Plumstead Peculiars.
