Carvel, Elbert Nostrand b. February 9, 1910 d. February 6, 2005 Delaware Governor. A native of Shelter Island, Long Island, New York, he served as the Governor of Delaware from 1949 to 1953, and from 1961 to 1965. Carvel also served as the Lieutenant Governor of Delaware from 1945 to 1949, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Delaware in 1948, Delaware Democratic State Chair in 1955, and as Candidate for United States Senator from Delaware in 1958, and again in 1964.
