Apponyi de Nagy-Appony, Geraldine b. August 6, 1915 d. October 22, 2002 Queen of Albania. She married King Ahmet Zog I of the Albanians in 1938. The royal family was forced to leave the country in April 1939.after Albania was invaded by Italy. The Royal family lived on the French Riviera. Hoxha, Enver b. October 16, 1908 d. April 11, 1985 Albanian Communist Leader. Enver Hoxha led the partisan resistance against Italian fascist occupation of Albania from 1939 to 1944. After Albania's liberation, Hoxha became head of that country's provisional government, and served as de facto head of state until his death. Initially a close ally of the Soviet Union, Hoxha broke with Moscow in 1961 and aligned Albania with Maoist China. Tashko-Koco, Tefta b. November 2, 1910 d. December 29, 1947 Opera Singer. A soprano, she was her country's best known singer over a relatively brief career. Born at Faiyum to an Albanian family, she was raised in Egypt until moving with her family to Korce, Albania, in 1921 and showed early evidence of musical talent. Sent to Montpellier, France, for training in 1927 she studied at the Paris Conservatory from 1932 until 1936 when she returned home.
