Bourguiba, Habib b. August 3, 1903 d. April 6, 2000 Tunisian President. A native of Monastir, Tunisia, Bourguiba was a noted Tunisian statesman who served as a the first President of the Republic of Tunisia from July 26, 1957 to November 7, 1987. He also served as the Prime Minister of Tunisia. Often compared to the likes of Mustapha Kemal Ataturk he promoted secularism, women's rights, polygamy, and legalized divorce.
