Bowne, Obadiah b. May 19, 1822 d. April 27, 1874 Congressman. He attended Princeton College from 1838 to 1840 and became active in local government. He was elected to Congress as Whig in 1850 and served a single term, 1851 to 1853. He returned to Staten Island and resumed his involvement in local government, including serving as Quarantine Commissioner from 1857 to 1859. McVean, Charles b. 1802 d. December 22, 1848 US Congressman from New York. He studied law and became an attorney in Fulton and Montgomery Counties. From 1827 to 1831 he was editor of a newspaper in Canajoharie. In 1832 he was elected to the US House as a Jacksonian Democrat and served one term, from 1833 to 1835. From 1836 to 1839 McVean was Montgomery County District Attorney. In 1839 he moved to New York City, where he continued to practice law.
