Burton, Richard Henry b. January 29, 1923 d. July 11, 1993 World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private in the 1st Battalion, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, British Army. At Monte Ceco, Italy, October 8, 1944, when an assault was held up, Private Burton rushed forward from his platoon, engaged a Spandau position killing three of the crew. Melvin, Charles b. May 2, 1885 d. July 17, 1941 World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private in the Black Watch, Royal Highlanders. At Istabulat, Iraq, on April 21, 1917, Private Melvin's Company was held down in the trenches by enemy rifle and machine gunfire. Private Melvin on his own, rushed over open ground killing two enemy.
