Atkinson, Alfred b. February 6, 1874 d. February 21, 1900 2nd Boer War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Leeds, England, he served as a Sergeant in the 1st Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, Green Howards, British Army. During the Battle of Paardeberg, South Africa, February 18, 1900, Sergeant Atkinson went out seven times under heavy and close fire to obtain water for the wounded.
