Stone, William Milo b. October 14, 1827 d. July 18, 1893 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, Iowa Governor. Served in the Civil War first as Major of the 3rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel of the 22nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "meritorious services during the war". A friend of President Abraham Lincoln, he was at Ford's Theater on the evening of April 14, 1865, and witnessed the assassination. Taylor, Jacob E. b. September 1, 1820 d. August 24, 1896 Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. When the Civil War broke out, Taylor joined the 2nd Ohio Infantry as a 1st lieutenant. His leadership skills were recognized and he was named a colonel in the newly formed 30th Ohio Infantry in late 1861. His service in West Virginia was cut short when he was called to Columbus to help form the 40th Ohio Infantry. He led that unit in the Nashville, Chattanooga and Atlanta campaigns.
