Bearnarth, Larry b. July 11, 1940 d. January 1, 2000 Major League Baseball Player. He was a pitcher in five seasons (1963 to 1966, 1971) for the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers. His best year was in 1963 when he posted a 3.42 ERA in 58 appearances. In 173 career games, Bearnarth won 13 and lost 21 with a 4.13 lifetime ERA. He served in the United States Army during World War I, and when he died in January 2004 he was the last living combat wounded veteran from that war. He had enlisted in 1917, serving with the 77th Infantry Division. Strowger, Almon Brown b. 1839 d. May, 1902 Inventor. He was an undertaker who believed that telephone operators were sending calls to his competitors unfairly. Before the turn of the 20th century he invented the first Dial System so people could select for themselves. He brought it to the Bell System who was not interested. He then brought it to Automatic Electric Co who adopted it. Telephone switching based on his invention (The Strowger Switch) was in use into the 1970's.
