Paine (Powell), Lewis (Lewis Thornton) b. April 22, 1844 d. July 7, 1865 Lincoln Assassination Conspirator. He fought at Gettysburg as a Confederate soldier. He was hanged for his involvement in the assassination of President Lincoln. Lewis tried to murder William H. Seward, Secretary of the State in the plot to kill Mr. Lincoln.
