Hackett, Thomas Bernard b. June 15, 1836 d. October 5, 1880 Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. As a young 21 year old lieutenant in the 23rd Regiment of Foot British Army during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, he along with fellow officer George Monger, rescued a wounded corporal who lay hurt and exposed under heavy artillery fire. Also, he showed conspicuous bravery under heavy fire by ascending the roof of a bungalow and cutting down the thatch to prevent it from being set on fire.
