Starcevich, Leslie Thomas b. September 5, 1918 d. November 17, 1989 World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private, in the 43rd Battalion of the South Australia Infantry. During the attack at Beaufont, North Borneo on May 25, 1945, his unit came under fire from Japanese machine-gun posts and suffered casualties. Private Starcevich, on his own, moved forward assaulting each post in turn, killing five of the enemy and causing the rest to retreat.
